List of former cathedrals in Great Britain : ウィキペディア英語版 | List of former cathedrals in Great Britain This is a list of former or proposed cathedrals in Great Britain. A former cathedral is a building, or the site of a building, which was once the seat of a bishop but is not so any longer. This may be because that bishopric has ceased to exist, or has been relocated. In some cases a new cathedral has been built near an older one, with the building of the older one then used for other ecclesiastical purposes (e.g. as a parish church), or used for secular purposes, or demolished. Such a building or site counts as a former cathedral. Where a cathedral building is modified or rebuilt, possibly several times, on substantially the same site in a series of developments over time, the earlier versions are not counted here as former cathedrals. A proposed cathedral is a building, or the site of a building, which was once proposed (usually by a church or civil authority) as a future cathedral, but for some reason that particular proposal failed. In some cases, a later proposal succeeded and the building then became the seat of a bishop. Nonetheless, the building concerned will be listed as a proposed cathedral on account of the failure of the earlier proposal. ==England== References are to the English church's current use or its use prior to deconsecration.
